Trademark registration in Saudi Arabia (SAIP)
Saudi Arabia has the largest consumer market in the Gulf and, since 8 October 2026, a Madrid membership. Both routes still run through SAIP, under the GCC trademark law.
Trademark registration in Saudi Arabia with SAIP
Trademark registration in Saudi Arabia is handled by the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) on its online platform. SAIP’s service page lists three official fees: 1,000 SAR for the application, 500 SAR for publication, and 5,000 SAR for registration and the certificate. After examination SAIP accepts, refuses, or accepts on condition of a change, which must be made within 90 days. An accepted mark is published for 60 days; if nobody objects, the final invoice must be paid within 30 days and the certificate is issued. SAIP gives 90 days as the service execution time.
Filing is done by the owner or by an agent acting under a power of attorney, and an agent must be recorded in SAIP’s Agent Registry. A foreign company normally works through such an agent, who also handles the Arabic-language correspondence. Saudi Arabia applies the GCC Trademark Law: protection lasts 10 years and is renewable, and a court may strike off a mark that has not been seriously used for five successive years.
Direct filing or Madrid
The Madrid Protocol entered into force for Saudi Arabia on 8 October 2026, so a brand with a home mark can now designate it from Europe. WIPO lists the Saudi individual fee at CHF 1,397 per class, which makes per-class cost a real factor in the choice. With a direct filing, check with the agent how the fee applies when the goods span several classes, since the service page does not state it. More on the choice in our Madrid guide.
This page summarises general information; it is not legal advice. When we coordinate Saudi filings, a SAIP-registered agent files in the name of the client’s company. Product and labelling rules are on the Gulf markets page; the UAE process is in our UAE guide.
