Trademark registration in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan is the usual entry point to Central Asia, and the national office publishes a clear tariff and statutory deadlines. Correspondence is in Kazakh or Russian, which shapes who handles the file.
Trademark registration in Kazakhstan: cost and stages
Trademark registration in Kazakhstan is handled by the National Institute of Intellectual Property (Kazpatent). Under its tariff from 1 January 2026, a legal entity pays 117,812.50 tenge including VAT for filing and examination of an application with up to three classes and ten items per class, then 37,849.64 tenge for registration, the certificate and publication. Extra classes and items cost more. The preliminary examination takes up to one month and the full examination up to seven months from filing. Protection lasts 10 years from the filing date and is renewable.
Applications are filed in Kazakh or Russian, online, in person or by post. Kazpatent states that an applicant can act directly or through a patent attorney or another representative under a power of attorney. A foreign company usually appoints a Kazakh patent attorney to receive notices and answer queries in the office language; confirm with the attorney whether representation is mandatory in your case.
Kazakhstan in a regional plan
Kazakhstan is a Madrid member since 8 December 2010. WIPO lists its individual fee at CHF 255 for three classes plus CHF 76 for each additional class, so a designation from an EU home mark is often the cheaper way to add it. A national filing gives direct control over the Russian and Kazakh versions of the name. A national registration covers Kazakhstan only; Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan need their own filings or designations. See also our Central Asia page and the Madrid guide.
Nothing here is legal advice; it is general information as of November 2026. Filings we coordinate are made by a Kazakh patent attorney in the brand owner’s company name. Registration itself is never guaranteed. Other offices are compared in our country table.
