Private label clothing manufacturing in India

India can make almost any garment. Most of the work is matching the product to the right cluster and writing a tech pack strong enough to survive export rules in the market where you sell.

Private label clothing manufacturers in India: how to choose and manage them

Private label clothing manufacturers in India make garments to your tech pack and label them with your brand, mostly for export. Start the choice with the product rather than the factory list. Official export data for 2025–26 put Tiruppur first among India’s textile and garment exporting districts, followed by Gautam Buddha Nagar, which includes Noida, and Bengaluru Urban, with Gurugram, Mumbai, Panipat, Surat, Ahmedabad, Ludhiana and Thane completing the top ten. The Ministry of Textiles named Tiruppur, Ludhiana and Kolkata as knitwear clusters when it launched its knitting scheme. Shortlist by product type.

Trade terms shifted in 2026. The India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement entered into force on 15 July 2026, and the UK government says 99% of Indian goods entering the UK are now duty free or on reduced tariffs. The EU–India free trade agreement was concluded in January 2026, and on 11 September 2026 the Commission sent it to the Council for signature and conclusion, so it is not yet in force. Preference only applies when the garment meets the agreement’s rules of origin, so check the product-specific rule for your garment and its fabric before pricing on a preferential rate. For the US, model landed cost on the tariff in force on the day you order.

The factory makes the garment, but the rules come from where you sell: fibre and care labels for the US and the EU, flammability for US clothing, extra testing for children’s wear. On the Indian side, exporters need an Importer Exporter Code from DGFT, and the Textiles Committee, a statutory body under the Ministry of Textiles, runs testing laboratories and export inspection services. Read our private label clothing page for range logic and US clothing rules if America is your market. These notes are general information, and a licensed specialist confirms trade and label rules for each order in a project.
